Day 1
  • Arrive Port-au-Prince
  • Meet Team
  • Briefing with team and HRDF president Aldy Castor. Reviewed Prepared Packet
  • Briefing materials.
Day 2

  • Travel to Aquin from PAP
  • Field Walk and investigation of Hotel and neighborhood, Hotel Road and Aquin Town Square
  • Meet other HRDF consultants and guests
Day 3
  • Measure, Survey, and field notes of Hotel Road Corridor
  • Plotting of field notes for Hotel Road. Roadway, Drainage, Pulloffs
  • Attending opening ceremony of guest house with local officials, neighborhood residents, Field Walk and investigation of alternate Hotel access road to the east
  • Creation of solar street and park lighting specifications based on field observations
  • Drafting of preliminary lighting plan for the town square
  • Toured and walked neighborhood trails, roads, and potable water supply facility and distribution lines
  • Walked the neighboring agricultural operations, river corridor, and evaluated the future potential of small-scale hydro electric power generation, irrigation, and aqua-culture operations by other Diaspora land owners and investors.
  • Vacation and retirement homes.
Day 4
  • Field locating and marking of solar street lights on hotel road and park lights
  • Measure, Survey, and field notes of Town Square
  • Investigation and walk of current drainage patterns in and around the Town Square
  • Construction plan photos taken of the road corridor and Town Square
  • Creation of draft engineering and drainage plan for the Town Square
  • Meeting with local planner to be briefed on previous planning concepts for the Town Square
  • Sketched and designed preliminary site plan for the town square uses and infrastructure
  • Met with other eco-tourism and vacation resort interests in the neighboring town of Zanglais. Delivered diving and snorkeling gear for use and training of local fisherman as snorkeling tour guides.
  • Discussed plans for creation of kayak nature tour program for Aquin and the Bay for new visitors.
Day 5
  • Meet with neighborhood leaders to discuss project design concepts for the Hotel Road, future neighborhood infrastructure needs, economic development opportunities, and building and maintaining partnerships, cooperation, and communications.
  • Travel back to Port-au -Prince
Day 6
  • Port-au-Prince
  • Toured expanding vacation community development, agriculture, and supporting infrastructure development in the Kenscoff region in the mountains south of PAP.
Day 7
  • Travel from Port-au-Prince to Orlando

Project I, Town Center and Square

Restoration and construction of new infrastructure for the Town Square to provide a safe, vibrant and visible location for tourism related cultural, recreational, educational events. The project will also provide improvements to health and safety in the center of Aquin by eliminating localized flooding and subsequent mosquito breeding. These construction activities include professional

design of event plazas, solar lighting of plazas and pavilions, drainage, landfill, pedestrian trails and sidewalks, street paving, park facilities, and native shade tree plantings.

The immediate technical assistance needed for this project includes the services of a civil engineer and landscape architect to design and cost the project.

Future assistance will be needed in the form of project manager to construct the physical improvements for the Town Square, surrounding street, drainage facilities, and landscaping and other related matters. An additional important project needing technical assistance related to the Town Square is the evaluation, design, and restoration of the many historic colonial era buildings

that front on the square. This will help preserve local history and culture and will create an improved sense place and pride for residents and tourism related economic development.

Project II Improved Access Road to Tourist Accommodations

Design and construction of an improved and safe access road to promote economic development utilizing newly constructed tourist accommodations and light manufacturing facilities on the north side of the town from the Route Nationale#2 corridor and the town square. The improved road will also stimulate future tourism related development and construction proposed by Haitian Diaspora

investors encouraged by recent planning activities along with recent guesthouse and solar equipment plant construction. The design and construction will include the access road, pedestrian ways, solar street lighting, drainage, erosion control, bulky solid waste removal, shade trees, and Route#2 intersection

Improvements.

The immediate technical assistance needed for this project includes the services of a civil engineer and landscape architect to design and cost the project.

Future technical assistance for this project will include the services of a project manager to facilitate the construction of the access road corridor and intersection, drainage facilities, street trees, gateway, pedestrian ways, and other related matters.

Project III Route #2 Gateway Corridor Improvements

Design and construct streetscape improvements along the Route Nationale #2 corridor through the Town of Aquin to create a safe and attractive sense of place that promotes retail, light industrial, service, and tourism related economic development for Aquin and the South region. The project will include pedestrian ways, native tree plantings, gateway landscaping, solar street

lighting, drainage improvements and erosion control.

The immediate technical assistance needed for this project includes the services of a civil engineer and landscape architect to design and cost the project.

Future technical assistance for this project will include the services of a project manager to construct the physical improvements for the gateway corridor, drainage facilities, street trees, gateways, pedestrian ways and other related matters.
